The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), on Wednesday, said that it will move residents of Garki Village in the city centre to Apo Resettlement Layout by the end of the year.
Garki is the only remaining village in the city centre whose residents have not been moved because of lack of alternative arrangements.
Minister of State for the territory, Olajumoke Akinjide, stated this while commending the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for the approval of the contract of provision infrastructure for the Apo Phase 2 Layout in Abuja.
The minister, who stated that the projects were parts of the commitment of the present administration to deliver the democratic dividends to the grassroots, added that they were due for completion within 30 months.
"Garki village resettlement has been an outstanding issue for us in the FCT, and with the approval of this phase 2, which will provide street lighting, electrical works, water drainage and water supply to the estate, we are hopeful that by the end of this year, we will be able to move Garki village finally to the Apo resettlement site," she said.
