Obudu Ranch wins bid to host 2014 WMRA

he Obudu Ranch Resort in Cross River State has been granted rights to host the 30th edition of the World Mountain Running Association championship in 2014.

Cross River won the bid at the weekend in Vallecamonica, Italy, on the occasion of the 28th World Mountain Running Championships, after garnering 21 votes while eight countries voted against and four abstained from voting.

Obudu will host the 30th edition of the association's event in 2014, to square with the 10th edition of the annual Obudu international mountain race and the sixth edition of the African Mountain Running championships.

WMRA president, Bruno Gozzellino, had, in 2011, appealed to the Sir William Archibong-led LOC for Obudu mountain race and Governor Liyel Imoke to consider bidding for the 2014 WMRA championships.

Gozzellino said he was impressed with the technical and administrative organisations of the annual Obudu race, and said the ranch was good enough to host the association's event.

A team of WMRA officials, led by council member, Basoglo Erhan of Turkey, was in Obudu to map out a new route for the international mountain race, in anticipation of the ranch winning the bid to host the world in 2014.
