Members of Akwa Ibom House of Assembly at their plenary session Friday confirmed the nomination of Valerie Ebe, as the state new Deputy Governor.
Governor Godswill Akpabio's letter requesting the House to confirm the nominee in accordance with the 1999 Constitution Section 191 (3) as amended, was read by Mandu Umoren, Clerk of the House.
Mrs. Ebe's nomination as deputy governor followed Wednesday's resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Nsima Ekere.
The Leader of the House, Okpolupum Ette, moved a motion that the governor's letter be accepted and was seconded by Aniekan Akpan.
Thereafter, Mrs Ebe was called into the chamber, screened and unanimously confirmed as deputy governor.
Speaking after the confirmation, the Deputy Speaker, Mr Udo Kierien, described Ebe as "an honest woman with integrity." He said the deputy governor designate had the capacity and technical know-how to add value to the development of Akwa Ibom State.
In his remarks, the Speaker, Samuel Ikon, said, "Ebe is qualified for the office of the deputy governor in terms of experience and qualification. "We are satisfied and she should be confirmed," he said.
Mr. Ikon urged the deputy governor-designate to be committed to her duty.
Mrs. Ebe, a widow, hails from Mkpat Enim local government area in Akwa Ibom South senatorial district. She was a former member of the state executive council from 2007-2010. Mrs. Ebe was the Legal Adviser of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and a former Commissioner for Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation.
